         So the Supreme court, in its judicial wisdom, decided that the portion of the Arizona Immigration which allows police to ask for "papers please" during routine stops.  I personally know people who think that is not only a good idea, but also believe that every State should have the same law.  After all, we must find and deport those illegal immigrants!
          Here's my question to my friends and everyone else in favor of the "papers please" law: if you are stopped, can you prove your United States citizenship?  I already know what your response is: "I don't have to prove it.  I was born here!"   Okay, but once again, if you have to, if you are stopped by any law enforcement officer, would you have proof that you are a citizen of the United States?

A letter to my republican friends

So you want President Obama to be a one term president and you want Mitt Romney to be the next President. You believe the Republicans will do better at running the country. You have good health care insurance and when you retire, you'll be receiving a good pension so you can still afford your insurance. You won't apply for Social Security or Medicaid because, like Mitt Romney, you support the Ryan Budget which will cut funding to all social programs and eliminate Medicaid.

  A group of Roman Catholic Sisters, calling themselves Nuns on the Bus, have hit the road on a nine State trip.  They won't be rolling into the Fort Lauderdale area where I live.  They won't be visiting Florida.  But their message is as important for us as it is for the people in the States they will visit.  Led by Sr. Simone Campbel, SSS and funded by Network, the Nuns on the Bus are protesting the cuts in the Ryan Budget.  These cuts will affect seniors citizens, children, low income families and even small businesses with regard to providing health care for employees according to Sr. Simone and Network.  The data provided on the web site is for the States the Sisters will visit, but every State will also suffer from the cuts.  Families Usa lists the top five States within seniors enrolled in Medicaid and persons with disabilities enrolled in Medicaid.  The Ryan budget proposes significant cuts in Medicaid.

Choose to stand up

         Choose to stand up, stand together and say: "Enough! This must stop! We must stop it! We owe that much to Christina Taylor Greene, 9; U.S. District Judge John Roll, 63; Gifford aide Gabe Zimmerman, 30; Dorthy Murray, 76; Dorwin Stoddard, 76; and Phyllis Scheck, 79.

         Sarah Palin's mantra, "Don't retreat, reload" as well as her use of cross-hairs designating Democratic officeholders her PAC sought to defeat in elections is part of the escalating talk which alluded to use of violence to win elections.  Similar statements have been made by by politicians and Tea Party members.

         March 10, 2011 will be the fifth anniversary of my partner Karen's death.  Some times I find it hard to believe that so much time has passed, that she has now been gone longer than we lived together.  I have, over the days, months and years, begun to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart and world and slowly put the pieces back together.  There will always be something missing; something that can never be replaced, but I have begun taking steps on this different journey.

Democrats failed...

         I received this tweet a few nights ago from someone who is exasperated with the Republicans:  How bout if all lower class, middle class, unemployed, & women who should know better showed up & voted 4 the peeps on their side last nov?

         What happened?  Why didn't those groups show and vote for candidates who were on their side?

          Abraham Lincoln said, "I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts."

         Obviously Democrats failed to "bring them the real facts" in a way that would connect with them.

Happy Anniversary, Karen

        In December 2002, Karen and I celebrated our greatest joy, our Holy Union Ceremony. Before we attended our first Mass at that Chapel, Karen said she wished we could get married at a Mass. On December 8, her wish came true, to some extent. Although we were not able to get married in the legal sense of the word, we did have our Holy Union Ceremony on the Feast of The Immaculate Conception during a Mass. We had two con celebrants. Victor was a former priest; Carl was on a leave of absence. I had seen Carl shortly after we started attending Mass. I recognized him but was not sure where or how I knew him. As soon as he introduced himself, I remembered that I had gone to confession one year on Good Friday, and he was the priest hearing confessions that day. His presence and participation at our ceremony meant a great deal to both of us. There was something innately holy about him.

Isn't it time?

My fellow Americans,

We are standing at the crossroads of what was and what will be.  We must choose to move forward.  We cannot allow ourselves to take even the smallest step backward.  To do so would surely make a mockery of the principles upon which our country was founded.

On a battlefield at Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln said:

Press 1 for English

         I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH. WE ARE IN THE UNITED STATES, LEARN THE LANGUAGE!  Over 200,000 people "like" this on Facebook, including 2 of my Facebook friends.  Pat Buchanon, during his run for president aired ads in which a person calling 911 waited as the automated voice when through various languages.  The implication being, of course, the by the time the caller reached the designated number for English it would be too late.  The conservatives take great pride and pleasure in calling for "English only."
