Like most of you, I was expecting to see Senator Marco Rubio give the Republican response to President Obama's SOTU address, and was surprised to see that apparently the Senator chose to have his eldest son fill-in for him.
While there was plenty there to criticize, I've gotta say: lighten up, people! I mean, that kid can't be, what, 10? Who among us wasn't a little nervous when it came to public speaking at that age? (I remember a speech I had to give in the 4th grade - about Amerigo Vespucci, as a matter of fact - and I was an absolute wreck! My trembling, shaky voice, the sweating...Man, that Rubio kid is way smoother an orator than I was, and I only had an audience of like 20 4th-graders to face.)
Now, of course most of us here don't agree with the content of the younger Rubio's speech, but don't shoot the messenger. It's not like he wrote that stuff. (Although, I suppose he could have, judging from the child-like politics and all, but I digress.)
My point is, let's go easy on the little guy. Who knows? He might grow up to be a real politician someday!
