***Write that diary!***
One of the downsides of the immense upswing of diary traffic of late is that it can be difficult to get even a good diary noticed. Those relating to specific candidates for a House, Senate or Local race in particular fall by the wayside, as they may connect with only a limited audience and thus receive few recommends.

That's why, in the 2006 Election cycle, Markos was kind enough to front page a modest effort to raise the profile of those races by "rescuing" them daily. Through the Election Race Diary Roundup, we were able to help keep so many diaries on those races in view and, perhaps, help just a little in what turned out to be several very close races.

While Brownsox' outstanding daily roundup highlights many of those races, it is you - the Daily Kos community - who can be on the ground to provide the insight and information to help grow our majorities at every level. The Election Race Diary Rescue is back, and now we need you to write those diaries.

First installment and more, below............

Since a few folks have asked and the consensus seems to be that it did serve a positive function in the 2006 election, I'm very happy to report that we will be resurrecting the Election Race Diary Rescue for the 2008 election season. With any luck (and a lot of scrambling), we're hoping for the first one to go up Sunday night (Eastern).

For those who may not be aware, the purpose of this (hopefully) daily diary will be (much like SusanG's Diary Rescue) to comb through all diaries posted over a 24-hour period and list those who fit the criteria. Unlike Susan's, however, our purpose is to take the fine work put together by Daily Kos diarists that focuses on House, Senate, or local races - those diaries which, by themselves, may not be "rec list worthy" but serve a vital function in getting more candidates more exposure.

Many of us have taken the media to task for their "coverage" - some would call it facilitating - of the many foibles of this administration. In particular, it seems the likes of ABC News and The Washington Post have come under scrutiny for some questionable editorial decisions.

The New York Times has also been criticized and among other things the Libby fiasco has done, it has reminded us of Judith Miller's (not small) role in the drumbeats leading up to the Iraq debacle, even as the "Kristol-nacht" wing of the right tries to repeat history in Iran.

Yes, today's editorial calling for withdrawal is hopeful, and Frank Rich often tosses a gem, though it can be said he's preaching to the choir. But with a new disturbing trend emerging of late, I think we should take note of how the Times' new public editor has emphatically responded.
