This is my first diary, so bear with me. This week we saw a strong swing in the national polling in the direction of Barack Obama, from roughly a 2% advantage for McCain, to about a 2-3% advantage for Obama. I was definitely encouraged to see this and was a bit surprised because I did not expect the McCain bounce to recede until the end of this past week.
However, now that the numbers have settled down some, the state of the race to the White House is as follows:
- Obama has a 2.5% lead in the national vote according to pollster.com and realclearpolitics.com. This still indicates a very tight race.
- RealClearPolitics.com has the race pegged at 273 (O) - 265 (M). Also a very narrow contest.
The thing that I want people to realize that while one should feel encouraged about Obama's chances, now is not the time to get complacent, as I have seen some excessive exuberance, almost celebration, within the Dailykos community. Obama has his nose ahead of McCain, now is the time to put in some hard work and push him even further.
