I've already posted a comment griping about the short shrift Dr. King's birthday gets in the US. So I won't beat that horse to death.
Instead, I'm offering these pictures as an inspiration.
From The Smoking Gun, I came across these mug shots of both Dr. King and Rosa Parks
For me, I'm going to put these up in my office as a reminder of how the human spirit can soar in the face of biggotry and evil. And as a reminder of what we can accomplish when our cause is just and our resolve is firm.
The opposition to our progressive causes is daunting today. This opposition ranges from the distortions of the media, to the lies of the theocrats, to the inertia of the government, to the lazy self-interest of the people. There many arrayed before us who are working to see us fail. But it has always been so. There always have been bullies and thugs trying to prevent equality, true equality, among all men.
These pictures stand to remind us that we must stand up to the bullies and thugs and that we can, from time to time, defeat them
