Mayby I have missed something. I know Dean said we can still send delegates to Boston but I thought somewhere he also said elect progresive delegates. I live in Germany and last month became a Dean delegate in my Democrates Abroad precinct. Yesterday was our Germany-wide meeting where we elected delegates to go to our Europe-wide conferance where delegates will be elected to go to Boston. To make a long story short, it was determined that Dean was not eligible for a presidential group. Many of the Dean delegates went to undeclared. A couple went to Kerry. Edwards did not have enough votes to be viable so they went undeclared also. I went to Kuccinich and convinced a few other Deanies to join me and Kuccincich became viable. When the vote counts were done the undeclared group did not have enough votes to be viable. So, all but I think one, who went to Kerry, joined the Kuccincich group.
I felt that I was still being true to my principles by using my delegate vote for Kucinich. Kuccincich has always been my second choice. He probably would have been my first choice if I ever believed he had a chance of winning. But, I am curious why I haven't heard other Dean supporters talk about voting for Kuccinich now that Dean is out of the race. When I last checked Dean had around 200 delegates. But, does anyone really believe that Dean will be able to get 15 percent in the next primaries and actually pick up new delegates? If we are truly interested in getting our voices heard and introducing progressive politics, why not give our votes to Kuccincih. This is starting to make a lot more sense for me than to vote for Dean. Sure, I agree if you like Edwards go with Edwards, but if you want to vote your heart and be represented at the Dem convention what would happen if the Dean supporters went to Kuccinch. Is'nt it more about the message than the man?
Anyway, I am curious to hear what other people think.
