Being from Iowa, I'm always attuned to the caucuses. It always amazes me how the Republican candidates for President talk over the heads of caucus goers, only to ignore what is actually happening to Iowans. Manufacturing is almost gone, as are most agriculture jobs. Replacing them are government subsidized factory farms, places at which native Iowans don't want to work (undocumented workers do the dirty work). Instead, candidates talk about what Iowa used to be like, decades ago. A good overview of the difference between the real and ideal is Stephen Bloom's Observations From 20 Years of Iowa Life.
Image what the campaign would be like if candidates actually talked about living conditions on the ground. Hopefully they will before we have an election.
