2 Weeks Until AIDS/LifeCycle

by TheOtherOne1979

Well, it's finally here -- almost.

In less than 2 weeks I will be on my bike in San Francisco en route to Los Angeles as part of the 545-mile, 7-day AIDS/LifeCycle. I cannot believe it's here. All the training, all the time on my bike, all leading up now.

Be sure to read why I am doing this ride here or read about how my mom feels about me doing it here

I am still about $1,300 away from my $10,000 goal. Please consider a donation to help me get over the top. 14 of you willing to donate $100 or 28 people willing to donate $50 or 56 people willing to donate $25 -- don't forget about the monthly payment option for as little as $10/mo for up to 10 months. So please join me!

Mother's Day was this past Sunday. I hope you took a moment thank and remember a mother in your life, whether she was your own mom, your grandmother, or the woman in the next cubicle. Being a mom is hard work and we should celebrate all they do for us.

My mom lives in another state so I cannot see her all that often. She and I did talk over Skype on Sunday so we could at least see each other, even if it was over a computer screen. My mom is truly a wonderful person who has been instrumental in me getting to this point in my life. I really cannot express how much she means to me and how much I lover her. She wanted me to pass along this email she sent me about me doing the ride next month.

I am writing this letter telling everyone how I feel about Eric participating in the 545-mile AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride June 5-11 from San Francisco to Los Angeles. My first thought when he told me he wanted to do this was, “ARE YOU INSANE? Who in their right mind would want to do something like that?” Then I saw how determined diligent he was with his training and I thought, "Wow, he’s really serious about this!"

I don’t know how to express how much this young man inspires me.  He knows what he believes in and he goes after it.  I would like everyone to consider a donation to support him so he can reach his goal. We can get rid of this horrible disease.

I know that when I found out he was gay my whole life fell apart, I feared the worst for him. But now I see what he has done with his life and what he wants to accomplish. He has become a stronger person. There is no mountain too high that cannot be conquered. I am proud of him.

With every ones help, AIDS can be conquered also. Please help with a donation!

Thank you mom! I love you too!

I am riding AIDS/LifeCycle 10

by TheOtherOne1979

Hello dKos community. It has been a long time since I have posted a diary, though I do come around to the site a few times a week to see what's happening. So I do hope you will forgive me for being a lurker and then just dropping this diary.

In about 75 days, I will be kicking off from San Francisco on the AIDS/LifeCycle ride, a 545-mile ride from SF to Los Angeles over 7 days. 2,500 riders raise money for either the San Francisco AIDS Foundation or LA Gay and Lesbian Center. I have chosen the LA Gay and Lesbian Center as my recipient. I have set a fundraising goal of $10,000.

Now, before I ask you for your support, I want to tell you my story. Please read it below the fold.

This is my personal account to diaries posted here and here, thanks Ellinorianne for helping me get this story out.  Adam and Abe are my boys and it has been an emotional roller coaster this week.  I apologize for the length.

I just read this disturbing story in the WaPo about the second contact lens solution recall in under a year.  Seriously, does the FDA do anything anymore?

If you are a soft contact lens wearer, and use the AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution please read this article.

Another update for my race for the Madison School District Governing Board here in Phoenix, AZ.  I collected 198 signatures and filed them with the Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools on Friday 8/4.

So unless someone challenges my signatures in the next 8 days I will be official.  The good or bad thing about the race as of Friday is that no one else has filed.  The deadline to file in Wed 8/9 5:00 PM MST.

Please check out my website for more information regarding the campaign or to get involved,

I wanted to give a brief but significant update to my campaign for the Madison School District #38 Governing Board here in Phoenix, AZ.  More below the fold.

I met someone last night who said something to the effect that it would be good to have been in a coma during the last six years and over the next couple so you did not have to experience and live in George W. Bush's America.  I thought about that comment and realized that I am glad to be awake during this time.  Given the damage done to this country, I want to look back and say that I was an active particpant in the change that made this country better.  That is why I, Eric Kenney, have decided to run for the Madison School District Governing Board here in Phoenix, AZ.

I am a first-time candidate with no experience in politics.  I am just a 26 year-old graduate student in Geography at Arizona State University, but I cannot sit idly by allow my country change for the worse without a fight.
