Charlie Hebdo Solidarity March  - RT;  France 24 Live Coverage

The French capital is gearing up for the security challenge posed by a giant rally that starts Sunday at 3 p.m. in honor of the victims killed during a three-day spree of violence that shook the country.
It is anticipated that up to 1 million people may participate in this tribute to honor the victims at Charlie Hebdo and the others killed as a result of the terror attacks in France last week. Many world leaders are expected to attend, including Angela Merkel (Germany), David Cameron (UK), representatives of other NATO nations, the Arab League, as well as he President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Even Netanyahu has said he will attend, as has Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority.

Feel free to add links and more information in the comments. Thank you.

Update: The live coverage of the march will proably start later - closer to the actual starting time. The links were apparently only showing the lead up live for a short while, but are also discussing other news right now. I'll add links as I come across them, and as mentioned, any others provided in the comments are welcome.

Der Spiegel online recently published - on July 4th, ironically - an interview it conducted with Edward Snowden's lawyer and human rights activist Jesselyn Radack who frequently posts at Daily Kos (here) and NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake while they were in Berlin to testify before a committee of the German Parliament investigating NSA spying in the country:

NSA Experts: 'National Security Has Become a State Religion'

I know that Ms. Radack posts here, but I missed that she is Edward Snowden's lawyer, though other DK readers who follow her writing more closely probably knew that already. Thomas Drake, the former NSA employee who is well-known here by name, at least, is also her client, and they give some very eye-opening insights into the extent of the NSA spying on and in Germany, which is also a microcosm of the immense scope the NSA's actual data-gathering capability has. The NSA invasiveness has become quite a serious issue, and threatens US-German diplomatic relations, which have become quite contentious since Edward Snowden's revelations began emerging last year. Things took a turn for the worse with the recent discovery of the latest spying incident involving a German BND (German Federal Intelligence Service) suspected double agent allegedly caught passing information about Germany's NSA investigations to the NSA. This has been written up by Hound Dog here and here.

Follow me below the fold for a couple of excerpts from the interview to whet your appetite.

Use Buycott to Boycott

by translatorpro

Fri Jul 04, 2014 at 10:25 AM PT: This is a diary I wrote about a year ago, and I very rarely post them, but in view of the recent events involving Hobby Lobby and Eden Foods, and seeing some commenters in those diaries wishing they had a tool to figure out what to buy and what to boycott, I thought this might be useful again. Republished as it appeared on May 22, 2013 with only this update note added.

Buycott is a new app designed to identify corporate trees of the products you buy, so that you are not inadvertently putting money into the pockets of billionaires who are buying their way into politics, or who otherwise support causes you are opposed to.

The homepage poses the question many of us at DK have often asked and tried to resolve through sites such as "Buy Blue", which ultimately failed:

Have you ever wondered whether the money you spend ends up funding causes you oppose?
A buycott is the opposite of a boycott. Buycott helps you to organize your everyday consumer spending so that it reflects your principles.

Example: During the SOPA/PIPA debate in 2012, a number of companies pushed to pass legislation that reduced online freedom of expression, while other companies fought hard to oppose the legislation. With Buycott, a campaign can be quickly created around a cause, with the goal of targeting companies with a boycott unless they change their position, or buycotting a company to show your support.

Michael Schumacher, 44, the record-holding, seven-time World Champion in Formula 1 racing, is in a coma following a serious skiing accident in France on Sunday. He apparently slammed his head on a rock after a fall while skiing with his 14-year-old son. A helicopter flew him to the nearest hospital, but he was later airlifted to Grenoble, where there is a special trauma unit.

Messages of support to his family having been pouring in from around the world. A prognosis has not been issued by the physicians caring for him - they are taking it hour by hour.

Michael Schumacher remains in a critical condition and fighting for his life after sustaining serious head injuries in an off-piste skiing accident at a resort in the French Alps, French doctors have said.
At a press conference in Grenoble, doctors said he was in a coma when he arrived at the hospital and had to be operated on immediately. They said his condition remained "extremely serious" and he was being kept in an artificial coma, but that it was too early to give an accurate prognosis.

At a press conference this morning, in Grenoble, doctors said he had suffered many lesions to his brain and his prognosis was unclear.

Surgeons operated to remove a blood clot in his brain and are now trying to reduce "dangerous swelling", meaning his condition could go either way.

The hospital revealed that Schumacher was being kept in a state of hyperthermia by controlling his temperature to keep it at 34C-35C (93.2F-95F).

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group!  Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Ok, we have a current diary schedule.  If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: weck
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday:broths

This Q&A was organized to give members of DK an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what Germany's energy policy really is about live and from a reliable source. There is a lot of misleading information being tossed around about Germany's energy policy, and criticism of that country for its alleged shortsightedness, even stupidity, in embarking on this challenging path into the future. I hope there will be a lively discussion that will spark ideas of how the United States may adopt some of Germany's policies to develop green energy sources and create thousands of jobs that can't be exported overseas. One size doesn't fit all, of course, but Germany is blazing a new trail in this area, and hopes to be an example to many of how we can put the brakes on climate change and leave the earth a better place for future generations.
Thanks to citisven for his support and collaboration on this joint experiment.

Ok, Kossacks! Tighten your belts a notch, check the cracks in the sofa, easy chairs and car seats, and skip a Starbucks latte or two. Put your money where your mouth is and let's do it: elect more and better Democrats to office! Let's build the Democratic bench with true stewards of the earth, our wonderful Native American people. As a bonus you can win SaraR's stunning quilt pictured below the fold for as little as a $10 donation! Each $10 donation will give you another chance to win this gorgeous work of art. Imagine yourself wrapped up in this wonderful quilt that just vibrates with the powerful energy of Meteor Blades, Speaks Lightning (Ojibwa), Dengre and Winter Rabbit, and - of course - the good will of many, many more dedicated Kossacks! I was perfectly content to read and comment on DK now and then, and had no ambition whatsoever to publish any diaries. But today I read an article that I've been waiting for for a very long time, a topic that I'm very passionate about, and couldn't help myself - so here is my very first diary on Daily Kos, after years of mostly lurking. I hope you like and learn something from my "maiden voyage" into the deep, perilous waters of DailyKos.

Nicholas Kristof wrote an op-ed in the NYT on May 5th regarding a report that's just been released by The President's Cancer Panel on the hazards of laxly regulated chemicals
(URL: The President's Cancer Panel, download "Annual Report for 2008-2009, large PDF-File).
Kristof's op-ed: http://www.nytimes.com/...

The President’s Cancer Panel is the Mount Everest of the medical mainstream, so it is astonishing to learn that it is poised to join ranks with the organic food movement and declare: chemicals threaten our bodies.
