This morning, following the release of an independent report into the UK Hillsborough soccer disaster, where 96 Liverpool FC fans were killed in 1989, the Sun newspaper, prop Rupert Murdoch, has been accused by PM David Cameron of producing a report which "was clearly wrong and caused huge offence, distress and hurt".
The paper published a report, under the headline "The Truth" (sic), accusing the dead fans of rioting and robbing other fans. This followed attempts to smear the fans by the police and a local MP. This lead to a boycott of the Sun in Liverpool, which still exists. The Sun's editor at the time has apologised for the story, but has been called a "lowlife" by Trevor Hicks, the father of one of the dead fans.
Seems like Murdoch can't catch a break at the moment...
