I love my country, I love my state and honestly I am so very proud of our President. I campaigned so hard for him — wrote posts on various sites, did phone banking, contributed as much as I could afford — I was “all in” for the skinny senator from Illinois. I was a true believer. I thought, how ever naive it turned out to be, that “we the people” could change the game. I honestly believed that no matter his color the people in Washington would deal fairly and while maybe not being overjoyed to do so, would work with him for the betterment of our nation. I see now how wrong I was.
So here we are ten years down the road from whence I started visiting this site and it seems we are back to where we started. We have one candidate that truly “gets it” and another candidate that while not a bad candidate, simply does not understand the plight of all our party’s coalition. People are tired of being sick and tired. We are at the event horizon where once past it there may be no coming back. The average citizen in the United States is becoming translucent, like so many employees of corporations can tell you about how it makes them feel when their leadership decides that the best thing to do is to move the factory overseas or across the border since they are costing the company so much money that they cannot afford to keep the factory open — yet all the while raising the CEO’s pay and paying out fat bonuses to the top.
It makes you feel like a number. Just a simple tittle or dot on a sheet of paper not a flesh and blood human being. I grew up a Democrat and my father has been in local politics as a Democrat for 33 years. He has been elected as our sheriff in the smallest county in Alabama 9 times in a row. So I know what it means to practice what we preach when it comes to the Democratic ideals because I had a great teacher. That is why it makes it so hard for me to give voice to my fears that our party is becoming what we have fought so hard against for so long.
Through these 10 years I have been participating here at Kos I have made some great friends and I cherish you all and I hope for everyone’s sake this election brings about a change in the direction of our country. I fear that while we may not always understand how important our voices are and we may not participate as much as we should so I encourage you to keep it up and look forward to my 20 year mark here at the kos. Nite nite all!
