Hello, I've missed you

by whatGodmade

This is just a small note to my friends on Kos that I finally got internet back on at home and I will hopefully be able to read Diaries and keep up with the current news here at Kos.

Bomb Threat at my son's high school (Gainesville High School here in Gainesville FL) had my son texting me - "Mom please come get me, I don't want to die" was my big news for today - went to get him after the high school was completely evacuated. - they never found a bomb ~~

I will try to keep up with current events and give ya'll some insight into my life as it relates to news ...

also CMS - a medicaid coverage my son has no longer has contracts with any psychiatric care provider ... got a call on Monday from my Nurse manager letting me know that as of Nov. 30, 2014 My son's mental health will no longer be covered .... I thought SHEESH! it took me going through hoops to get on this coverage, now I have to find another medicaid provider for my autistic son ....

If you got a chance to meet John, you might want to know that this past Friday 11/14/14 he had a heart attack. He is still in the hospital but recovering well from it.

And also my brother Bill came down from Alaska for a visit and took all of us (me and my 4 kids) to Disney World!! Kids had a blast! Joshua had his first roller coaster ride ever (Thunder Mountain) and even went on Space mountain (which he said he did not like too much) - He got to meet Snow White and got to see the Country Bears (he loved them the best!!)

Life is full of ups and downs - just hope your "ups" outweighs your "downs"

The protests from the Muslims in Egypt and Libya were said to be over an American film made by Sam Bacile entitled "Innocence of Muslims". A 14 minute trailer of the film was posted on Youtube. I do not condone the killings in Libya, but I can certainly understand the protests.

Continue on to see the trailer ...

Fighting the Good Fight

by whatGodmade

Have you ever felt so down you can hardly breath? Have you ever felt so overwhelmed that you don't know how to get through the day? Did you see it but just don't know how to change?

There are some times our faith can be pushed beyond our limits ... we have to learn how to grow ... how to make the tough calls ... and how to call on God even if it is in the smallest measure.

I invite you to take a walk with me down my personal struggle to get out from under Depression and Oppression with the smallest amount of faith left to me. And for those who sent positive thoughts from Daily Kos and sent prayers out for me ... Thank you just doesn't cover how grateful I am to you.

Have you ever felt hopeless? Have you ever watched a love one get so out of control you thought they or the rest of your family might be at risk because someone with special needs cannot control themselves or their meds are off and need adjusted? If you have ever had to put a loved one in the hospital due to those kinds of conditions, you find yourself trusting people like doctors, hospital staff and councilors These people are licensed, and certified to help those we love. So why does the thought of seeking help from these people scare me to death?

KosAbility is a community diary series posted at 5 PM ET every Sunday and Wednesday by volunteer diarists. This is a gathering place for people who are living with disabilities, who love someone with a disability, or who want to know more about the issues surrounding this topic.  There are two parts to each diary.  First, a volunteer diarist will offer their specific knowledge and insight about a topic they know intimately. Then, readers are invited to comment on what they've read and or ask general questions about disabilities, share something they've learned, tell bad jokes, post photos, or rage about the unfairness of their situation. Our only rule is to be kind; trolls will be spayed or neutered.

We are looking at Autism, not so much the various degrees of Autism, but in treating it and how it can be next to impossible to get all the best treatment for this condition due to insurance billing, but mostly at Medicaid and the problems associated with the Autistic diagnosis.

Coin or Bill?

by whatGodmade

The Senate is looking into passing new legislation that would replace the Dollar Bill with a coin Dollar.

“By moving from the costly dollar bill to the dollar coin, we can save real money and show the American taxpayer that we are serious about cutting spending in Washington,” McCain said.
A pro might be that yes the dollar bill does wear out much faster than a coin and has to be replaced more frequently than a coin, but the con is also - who wants to carry around a bunch of heavy change?

My thoughts on the matter have a slightly different angle to them. I remember the half penny. I think many watched Little House on the Prairie and saw Laura Ingles buy a bag of candy for a penny. Well those days are long gone and so is the half penny. If we make the Dollar into a coin, will that be the first step to the entry level of our money changing? Will the base line be the dollar rather than 1/100 of a dollar?

Will this be the first step toward doing away with physical money all together and relying on a plastic digital monetary system? Like debit cards or Personal Identity with all of your information on it? I remember when the idea of using a phone that can allow you to have a video chat seemed impossible and so futuristic, but in my lifetime it has happened and is very commonplace.  I remember when I hated people with cell phones not understanding why people couldn't just wait till they got home to call someone.

I remember a time when money was backed with real gold too ... but not anymore.

Am I reading too much into this? Am I paranoid?

What kind of economic system will we be entering into if the Dollar bill turns into a mandatory Dollar coin?

Update on Joshua and thanks again

by whatGodmade

I am trying to recoup after a very hectic day. Today I was up at 6 am off to get a fasting blood work from the lab by 7am then to Occupational Therapy, Speech and Physical Therapy then an hour long talk with the Psychiatrist (at the Autistic Clinic - not meridian!). Joshua and I have had a very busy week ...

Right now He has a Cardiologist appointment on Monday - and the Psychiatrist will not put him on any more ADHD medications until they find out why he had those heart pains that made the Dr. at Meridian change his meds. I am still waiting to get into the Neurologist. I will keep you posted ...

Had a meeting with the head of Meridian and CSU. I was told it was in regards to the fiasco that was Joshua's stay at the CSU. I told them how I had resolved the issues - Medicaid had pre-approved Joshua to go to an Autistic clinic that is normally not covered by Medicaid and I had applied for a supplement for the Medicaid so it would cover things that Medicaid would not. I had requested Joshua get a referral to be checked out by a neurologist. These were the things I had done to make improvements in Joshua's care. Mr. Pittman however ... was not so forthcoming. He said that what SHOULD have happened was that Joshua should have been seen at the outpatient clinic that day..... My mind was thinking - I thought Baker act meant inpatient - not outpatient. I struggled to grasp what he was saying when he said that legalistically Joshua shouldn't have stayed at the CSU ... because of his diagnosis. I asked "Are you saying Legally Joshua can't go to the CSU?" Well, he explained - it all came back to billing because they could only bill for "certain diagnosis" ...Damn it if it didn't come all back to the money!!! Apparently an Autistic diagnosis couldn't be billed for there at the CSU it had to be a behavioral diagnosis. I told the man - he is on BEHAVIORAL medications. I said Sir - My son was out of control, he was violent and running away like he was trying to escape his own skin! I could not control him and neither could a special ed school full of people TRAINED to handle children like Joshua. He was not safe! These were BEHAVIORAL issues. I do not see how CSU attended to any of the safety factors related to my son! I called a pharmacist and that Strattera would be in his system for at least 2-3 days and in that week-end when he was home he tried to run away at least 8 times. He was worse with that in his system than if he was on no medications at all. Well Mr. Pitman didn't even bat an eye and said, we are trying to keep him out of the inpatient setting and keep him in an outpatient setting (Was he threatening to institutionalize my son?) In the 6 years since I have raised my son as a single mother - I NEVER spent one day away from him ... like I WANTED to put my son in that place?? He said that he noticed that I had also brought in the other various agencies ... I said yes sir, I wanted to make sure something was done to fix the problems with the facility. I asked him if he could give me some resolutions to my issues at CSU in writing and he told me that he couldn't. He gave me his card and said, if they ever give you unsatisfactory service again - please call my cell phone number. I thanked him ... but inside I was seething ... Special treatment to shut me up?? I could see his major focus ... money and keep things hush hush ....OOOOoooo that man has not satisfied me not one bit. Monday I plan to contact all those people and let them know my displeasure. He stood by the psychiatrist that released my son without any care about his safety. It may have been a career decision.  I am not going to let this rest - People will be told about his piss poor attitude and how he deals with the issues at Meridian ... That's all I have to say about that ... for now ... I will keep ya'll posted.

(((((Kossacks)))))

by whatGodmade

I sit in my bed after an exhausting few days to sit down and thank a community... an extended family ... and my mind is blank. I look down at my son sleeping ... finally after such a scary experience.

I know he isn't himself yet. I will still have to go through more and more appointments to get him back to "normal" - more like managable and safer.

How can I thank a community that is becomming more and more like family?

Come and read on as I try to explain what happened and what may be in our future.

Is God a Placebo?

by whatGodmade

I have really had a hard time sleeping lately ... I was just surfing the web ... I stumbled upon a blog site that wanted someone to prove there is a god ... It got me to thinking ... the person already had 439,895 replies to their simple request:

Prove there's a god
Come on and do it.
Prove there's a god.
Don;t read off scripture or anything like that just prove there's a god.
I thought of all the tracks people go door to door handing out ... and of the prayers going out for unbelieving family members ... and I thought of all the people who preach hell and damnation ...are they doing any good?

God has become a very important part of my life. And yet I have Science background and love the scientific method. Could I prove to this person that god exists? As much as it "works for me" for someone who does not believe in God - my "relationship with God" may be seen as little more than a placebo. Something in my imagination - because I WANT it to be real, could it have all of the same kind of effects and what I think is a real relationship with God? Am I being led by God or my own inner desires, fears, or subconscious reactions to my environment and inner thoughts??

How could I prove it ... continue on to read what I posted and why.

Kids say the darndest things!!

by whatGodmade

"Mommy, why is she so fat??"

"You are the wrong color!!"

"Look Mommy She has a cool arm! Is she a robot?"

"Mommy what happened to him? Why is he in that chair?" "Can I have a chair like that?"

My children ...say the darndest things. But I have heard children say the same thing to me … or rather about me. Their mother or father would quickly hush the little darlings up and be either very embarrassed or apologetic. I do not know about other people with "differences" or "Disabilities" but it's the parents who irk me much more than any kid.

I invite you to peek into my life, follow below the fold...

We really need prayer for Vetwife's husband. His feet have been black and blue for 3 days and they went to Gainesville VA Hospital and he saw FOX on TV and pulled out the plug from TV in protest and rage for the fox news bashing Obama. Vetwife is in tears not knowing if they will arrest him or hospitalize him - he is 100% disabled and has had issues for a while -------

Please pray for vetwife and her husband - I am leaving now to the VA.
She asked me to post this before I left
