I divide my time between Leesburg, VA and Deming, NM. On occasion I need to make a trip to the post office to ship a small item or two.
I likely make more trips to the Deming office, and there is usually a lady on duty who probably thinks this aging relic could screw-up ball bearings. So I show-up with my package, my shipping label, and she selects just the right envelope, inserts the package, seals the envelope, attaches the shipping label, rings-up the charge, and I’m off. Efficient to the max.
Just last week I had to ship something out of the Leesburg office. Leesburg is a bit more “posh?” (can’t think of a better term), so it has the envelopes and shipping boxes along the wall as you enter the office. I selected an envelope, inserted my items, and sealed the envelope. As I’m waiting in-line I’m feeling pretty cocky! All the postmaster has to do is attach the shipping label, ask the usual “do I need stamps,” and away I go.
When I get to the next available agent, she says to me that I have to buy a roll of tape and affix the label myself. She points to a bunch of tapes hanging on the wall behind me near the envelopes. My response was a look of disbelief. So I get out of line, grab a roll of tape which costs $4, then use about 10 cents worth to attach the label. After getting in line, she didn’t like how some of the corners were attached so she quickly ripped-off and attached a couple of tape pieces from the giant roll she had sitting right next to her [for context, I may have been at one time a rocket scientist, but I flunked cut-and-paste in kindergarten and it hasn’t got any better], rang me up (including the $4 tape roll), and I’m sure was glad to be rid of me.
Anyone had a similar experience? Is this yet another DeJoy debasement of the USPS? Like a lot of readers, I support the USPS because of all the overt Repub efforts to put the USPS out of business and replace it with a private (i.e., grifting) substitute. But, I gotta tell you, this last experience left a bad taste.
Time to rid ourselves of DeJoy!
