    they were each told they were terminal, inoperable, and had less than 3 months to live.  One did die, but the other two are still alive and have reached the stage of being considered cured.

      I had always heard that "remission" was the furthest doctors were willing to go when it came to cancer.  Has the terminology changed?  Now I'm curious!

        of cancers are completely curable if caught early enough. Those with advanced cancer that is removed, regresses, disappears, or ceases to be cancerous are considered in remission for 5 years.  If it does not recur during those 5 years and requires no treatment during that 5 years, they are considered cured.

        Often, when it comes back after 5 years, it's not the same cancer, but a different one. There are over 100 different types of cancer and each requires a different treatment.
