  •   South Carolina has 8 electoral votes (0+ / 0-)

If California gets ripped for the 'winner take all' thing we have here (the initiative is NOT dead), 20 - 22 votes would go 'Publican.  Eight votes for Colbert could help the Dems.

But anyway Colbert's running in the primaries, not the general election.

And people in South Carolina know Colbert's a liberal satirist, so there's no way if he did run in the general election that he'd win the state (it would be nice if he could, and took SC's otherwise Repug votes out of play; but he couldn't win the state).

I'd be all cool with him running in the primaries or general in SC as the joke it's intended to be, and kind of funny if he picked up some delegates, which is possible...except that it would set a precedent for, as said, someone like O'Lielly running a serious campaign for NY Senate while using his TV show to promote his own candidacy.

I'm really disappointed to hear that the California initiative is still alive, though.  That's a real threat in any close election.
