    •  Not really, you can't have a Canadian pipeline (0+ / 0-)

on US territory. Also, Canadian ports are much closer to Alberta than Gulf of Mexico.

      •  yes, you can (1+ / 0-)

TransCanada is seeking a Presidential Permit from the U.S. Department of State that would allow the pipeline to cross the U.S. border.

on a different issue, eminent domain to take land from private ownership, they have a US company for that.

I can't believe the response you got here.

The internet was down in the town I'm in. I just tracked back to this story. Sorry I wasn't here to help this very well written diary get more coverage.

        •  TransCanada has 2 Americans on the board (0+ / 0-)

The Alberta Tar Sands is heavily financed by China. Cheney has been a frequent visitor.

The tar sands and the pipelines are multinational.

There is another pipeline that would cross the province of British Columbia to a port on the west coast for shipment to China. This pipeline would go through pristine wilderness, across rivers, through native lands. It's a travesty. Then it would load tankers in a port and endanger the west coast waters. There is right now a ban on tanker traffic on the West Coast but our right-wing government and the oil people are pressuring to have it lifted.
