i get it, default is horrible, but the entire republican caucus KNEW he'd do anything to avoid it.

If he'd been willing to let it happen, or at least pretended that he was, then there's a chance.

I am totally dependent on funds from the federal government and without them, even short term, my life will be in total chaos, but I'm willing to get through that if the government shuts down because the teabagger gop won't pass a bill that doesn't include every one of their demands.

      I hope I don't stand alone.

The religious fanatics didn't buy the republican party because it was virtuous, they bought it because it was for sale

      Platinum Coins.

But he fucked this up so long ago that the Caveinator in Chief did what he has always done.

      CAVED.

Eric Cantor and his righty nut jobs did call his bluff and Obama CAVED.

and place to work on deficit reduction was the first tactical mistake. Agreeing to use something that he could never let happen as the basis for change with Teahadists was a huge mistake. It set a frame where he could only go from bad to worse.

There is also the failure of messaging early and often. The Republicans were not afraid to get out there and throw elbow from months ago, yet the president has really only rolled out the bully pulpit lately and all that press time has made his leveraging of it far less effective than if he had been calling them out as reckless and dangerous starting as soon as we passed the point where we could not pay our bills without accounting maneuvers.

Then there is the discounting of the 14th Amendment. Even if he never intended to use it and believed that it was not allowed in any case, he could have kept it hanging over the negotiations. Basically he could have said "Be reasonable, you'll get some of what you want, or I'll just bring the curtain down and we'll start from square one"

Failure to keep and use that kind of leverage made it easier for Republicans who are not Teabaggers to go along with their intransigent moron Freshmen. It would have helped Boehner corral the votes he needed.

Anyone of these things would have made a huge difference and all of them have been obvious all along.

Getting Democrats together and keeping them that way is like herding cats that are high on meth, through L.A., during an earthquake, in the rain -6.25, -6.10
