We see the problem over and over.  When government is more concerned about the needs of wealth than people, the net result is that people believe that government doesn't work.  We are seeing this once again with this debt ceiling business.  What has been the primary concern?  In a nutshell, disrupting markets and causing portfolios to go down in value.  So to save the portfolios of the wealthy, what do we do?  We trash the people; cut their SS, cut their Medicare, cut their education.  Cut, cut and more cuts.
