because of where the ball has landed and the timing, if Dems fail to vote for this version, then we default and it is blamed on Dems, yes?

Not saying that it's fair, just that it is what it is. The GOP will not agree to any additional changes demanded by Dems. None. there is no incentive for them to do so.

I don't see how all this could possibly have been handled in a worse way.

Ds see human suffering and wonder what they can do to relieve it. Rs see human suffering and wonder how they can profit from it.

The time for organizing was before the mid-terms.

I did it. I called many of the first time voters from 2008 and explained why every election is important.

Maybe more people should have done that.

Then we wouldn't have the completely insane people in the House.

But of course, I am taking a chance of getting flamed here, for I may be more pro-Obama than not.

Which is true. I think under the attacks from right and left, he is doing the best he can.

And no, I do not agree with all his policies, but I look at the larger picture. I tried being a one issue voter in the 60's and probably drove out of office one of the best presidents we've had on domestic issues.

The mass hysteria on this site has driven out those who would like to discuss all the nuances of this debt ceiling bill. After all, all we know is the framework.

I can tell you that TPM has the bill broken down, and though there are iffy issues, it does not appear to be the worst thing  ever.
