  •  But "organize" ... (2+ / 0-)

protest and action and even solidarity

get tossed around so often by so many individuals, organizations, interests and coalitions that they have come to mean everything and nothing.

More like a cheap internet hook-up than actual movement building.

I say this not to throw cold water on anything, but because I've heard this so often here, there everywhere, with not enough behind it in many cases to help me have confidence in our 21st century versions.

Lots and lots of organizations are highly skilled at assembling enormous email and contact lists, bundling money and donations, getting people to contact political leadership, the media, etc, even bringing people to State Capitols when bodies on the street are needed. But the aggregate of all these things still hasn't and doesn't in some inexplicable way congeal into a "movement" in quite the same way that it used to.

I recognize this comment thread is not the place for such a discussion, and I am not offering it as such, no intent to hijack, incite a flame war or anything else. It is really just an individual, gut-level response and nothing more.  My apologies in advance for anyone who might take offense or have strong emotional responses to it.

    •  Would Tea Party be successful with calls and email (0+ / 0-)

Why don't we use DKOS to try and agree on a serious tactic  like putting forward our own candidates in Dem primaries or effective protests or cyber warfare.

Right now DKOS is a Progressive graveyard as it is used to vent emotional energy that could be directed toward action, other than useless cyber petitions. (whose real purpose is to get your email address for fundraising)

      •  I think the "organize" (0+ / 0-)

part at least as folks like MB and others are referring to it, is about something bigger than and decidedly different from putting forth a slate of candidates.

it is a slightly different focus than the one the site is dedicated toward.
