Well, have fun with that, I guess.

    •  yeah come on you gotta vote for the guy (6+ / 0-)

and then the guy next time around, who sort of betrays our principles at pretty much every opportunity, but just think of the alternative! and it'll be the same for the guy after that, and the guy after that. unless you think the R's are gonna get less crazy.

the comment above me is indicative of this smug dipshit "well we should eat shit because the alternative is worse" attitude that will go on forever and ever as long as the Dem leadership gives us leaders like Obama, and the "pragmatists" insist we must vote for them because it's so, like, pragmatic.

        Let me tell you something...

When I used to live in England, I was a supporter of the Labour Party. There were plenty of policies that I took issue with but, you know what, I ALWAYS voted Labour even if it was the lesser of two evils.

I will always rather vote for the democrat in a 'Blanche Lincoln/'Sharon Angle' type scenario EVERY single time.

Also, the reality is, the alternative to Obama IS worse. That alone should be a no-brainer when it comes to who to pull the lever for.

        •  no (0+ / 0-)

i refuse to endorse his behavior. would you rather my generation be a group of liberals who think that policies like Obama are just A-OK and vote for him and his successors every time, or would you rather us tell the Dem leadership to go to hell unless they actually represent us?

          •  Wow....hang on a second.. (0+ / 0-)

Do you REALLY think that Obama hasn't 'represented' you at ALL?

It's clear that 'your' group of  liberals are very different to mine.

The progressives/liberals I hang out with actually know where the real problem lies. They also acknowledge how far Obama has come in a relative short space of time considering who he's dealing with.

            •  well (0+ / 0-)

when i was growing up my mother had cancer for a period of years, multiple times. my family never went on vacation, i've never been out of the country, we nearly lost everything including the house.

so when Obama cuts the public option in a backroom deal after campaigning on universal healthcare, that's a big fucking deal to me, and no, he is not representing me. when he continues with that behavior on Bush tax cuts, Bush terror policy, and now the debt ceiling, then i KNOW he isn't representing me.

what exactly do you think the real problem is? is it that the Republicans are just so evil and crazy? all the Obama critics know that. but is that the real problem? or is the problem that our Dem president refuses to stand up to them in any way, and instead adopts their rhetoric, concedes to their demands, and does nothing to actually sway the discourse in a helpful direction?

it does not take much brainpower to see all the ways Obama could have used his presidency to do far, far better than he actually has. it is not "pie in the sky" to expect that Obama would champion the progressive People's Budget alongside the other debt ceiling deals. or is anything that would actually help our country just "too liberal" and impossible to get through the big mean R's?

Obama ignored the People's Budget and latched onto slashing Medicare and Medicaid, because that's what he fucking wants. not the progressive budget. the Republican budget. how the hell can you dispute that? the only way you can is if you say "well Obama couldn't actually do anything a Dem would do because that's just impossible in today's political climate!" and if you think that, what good are you as a liberal Dem?

        •  And so you elected Bush's Bestest buddy (0+ / 0-)

in Tony Blair -- because he had an L by his name.

Really -- you chose the worst example possible, by voting for your team you actually put in place someone who was the greatest of two evils. No one cared what the UK population wanted -- precisely because they could count on labor to vote for Labour even if they ran Margeret Thatcher wearing pants.
