    WY has the energy boom to thank.  So Barrasso is in a better position than most to look good.  No budget deficit whatsoever in Wyoming.

      So we're doing much better than much of the country in that regard.

      The state budget has been tough - about $140 million shortfall meant some cutbacks that hurt (and a lot of disagreement with Gov Shumlin's choices, refusing to consider raising any taxes to address it) - but generally the cuts have not been draconian. Revenues were up unexpectedly the last couple of months, so FY 2012 will have a little more breathing room (but federal cutbacks could screw that entirely...)

      Vermont is not a wealthy state, and eking out a living here can be tough. But with a diversified economy, there tend to be fewer dramatic swings and extreme cycles than in many other parts of the country.

      Once social change begins,it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read...You cannot oppress people who are not afraid anymore.
