    I've been thinking much the same thing. Obama was not my first choice because he was much too centrist for me. But at least he warned up repeatedly: It won't be fast, and it won't be easy. We won't always agree.

    What I didn't anticipate was that electing an African-American would be used to stir up a frenzy of hatred and evil. The poor saps still have no idea how they are being used by the uber-wealthy. I might have know if I'd been willing to subject myself to listening to the hate-spewing, but personally I chose not to let that into my life. If we choose to let them divide and inflame us, we are surely lost -- and worse off than we've been since Reagan.

      Electing a white man from Arkansas did this in the 1990s, so, especially given the racial attitudes of the GOP base, why wouldn't you have anticipated this?
