My ex was laid off around the end of April - it's been tight in the Needs-a-Beat household, too.  I work as a special ed paraeducator, and I live off savings in the summer.  However, with the child support and maintenance cut in half, those savings vanished.

I got help via a local agency, Emergency Family Assistance Association.  I'm too rich for food stamps, but I go to a food bank once a week for groceries.  They've been helping me a lot.  Is there anyplace like EFAA in your area?

I also got on a wait list for affordable housing, here in Boulder.

I keep telling myself this is a temporary situation - once school starts, and I start getting paid again; and once I'm in affordable housing, the drama will be over.  Except after the past couple of days, and the disaster in DC, I can't be sure about that anymore.

Noor, you're in my thoughts!  Hang in there.  We don't have any other choice.

When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights, are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
