    Perhaps you missed my point.  Why is a Republican being appointed at all?  Let's assume the guy isn't a teabagger and just decided he wanted to work for a Tea Party senator.  (An implausible scenario in a political job, but let's assume it.)  On what basis would one choose such a person over a qualified Democrat?  I just don't believe there are no qualified Democrats in the state of Utah who could fill this job.

      throw in the blue-slip privilege, the fact this isn't a policy making position, and the fact it's Utah (where there are probably qualified democrats, put possibly not as qualified given the small sample to choose from), this is all much ado.
