The Tea Party really modeled the grass roots mobilization idea
on what the Democratic Party used to do that created a lot of progressive reforms in the past, notably in the FDR era through about the Kennedy/Johnson era.

My sense is that the over reliance on TV advertising and expert systems related to TV, direct mail and other database operations caused the grass roots mobilization to atrophy between the 1970s and the present day.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.

    •  I wasn't aware of that history. (0+ / 0-)

Atrophy is a good description, imo, and your assessment does make sense.

Our challenge is to get folks to engage again and realize they really can have an impact on their immediate circumstances.

No, I will NOT sit down or shut up...but, thanks for askin'!

There is enough stress on the need to look at what is apparently taboo.

You would think that here on Kos and other blog sites people would be less bought in to the expert systems that have caused the grass roots to be dismissed.

But with the greater emphasis on technology that tends to be favored here, I think the reluctance to entertain a true analysis is actually pretty powerful.

I think people prefer to wail and moan and gnash their teeth than look at underlying causes.  We are conditioned to think there is no use.  There must be some other thing we ought to be thining about.  Quite a phenomenon.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.
