    Neither planet prior to the collision was truly "Earth", but rather two proto-planets, although generally the larger is called Earth (the body that was not completely destroyed), and the smaller Mars size body is referred to as Theia.

    After the collision, Earth was molten and the other planet destroyed, most of its remaining mass participating in Earth's "iron catastrophe" (heavy elements from the destroyed proto-planet sank to Earth's core, lighter elements rose to the surface.)

    If apes evolved from humans, why are there still humans?
