missed this diary before. Donated, T&Red, and damn it swampyankee, we are going to get you back on your feet somehow. Please, if there are any Kossacks in swampyankee's neck of the woods, maybe you can hold the phone for her while she is waiting to be talked at by these social services people.

And swampyankee, here's a tip: when the social services person answers the phone and starts to say "can I put you on hold?" you immediately say, before thay have finished their sentence, "NO. I will NOT be put on hold. I will be dealt with RIGHT NOW." Tell her/him the deal and then say, "Again, I will not be put on hold. Put the phone down to look up the data on your computer, but do NOT put me on hold." If they say, "I need to speak with so-and-so about your case, say, "Then I'll speak to so-and-so. Transfer my call to them right now."

A friend of mine has been an advocate for the poor, the disabled and head-trauma patients for years, and that is her first response to social workers who are overworked and want to put you on hold. The reason they do that is that it keeps that line closed so no one can call in on it. If the lines are busy the person calling in will get discouraged and quit calling. It is a weeding out process unfortunately, and if you are easily weeded out they will not give you the services you need and deserve.

Please do not hesitate to ask us for help. We may only be able to forward a few bucks at a time, but everything helps.

      Thank you so much!

Yes, swampyankee is connecting with some Kossacks in her area and that can only help keep her spirits up.  She's been through a lot and has been wrung through the keyhole.  Friendship is the best tonic when someone is that tired of all the blows...
