  •  Videos marked "for your eyes only" is what (17+ / 0-)

Reagan got.  Those videos were never made public, but I can almost guarantee that the ransom was arms.  Send us the arms we want and we will release the prisoners, who incidentally had to wait for their release until after the inauguration so that Reagan could make political hay of it.

Then he said he didn't know a thing about the arms for hostages deal.

The religious fanatics didn't buy the republican party because it was virtuous, they bought it because it was for sale

    •  Of course like the good MIC tool he was (8+ / 0-)

he promptly sent Rummy to Iraq to arm them in their fight with Iran. Lesson: never, ever trust a Republican. They'll even screw over their partners in crime.

Modern Conservatism isn't simply about them owning as much as possible; it's also about breaking anything they can't own.

he was fiercely protected from the details, kept in the dark securely about almost everything foreign and domestic.  That way he couldn't lie about what he knew or didn't know.  A little like Georgie boy.  I think it's a somewhat different game for Obama but similar modus operandi (you win because we help you/support you).  Who gets in that position without being able to answer to the powers that be?  I don't think the GOP opposition to him is a farce.  It seems he's still much further to the left than many would like. It's a sad reality of high level politics.  I came from a place of actually imagining Jesse Jackson as president years ago.  I now see how far we are from that.  It's sad and difficult but we really need to look at how this country has evolved through corporate power.  Can,  or how can that be revoked?

I don't know.  These are just things I think about.  I want a bright future, opportunity for my children, reason for hope.  I think that's it, HOPE doesn't just fall out of thin air.  It comes from something active.  You have to work and see the fruits of your labor to gain hope. I think it's been misunderstood as a motto.  It would be better if it was "Through action, Hope!"  Sorry, rambling now.  I think we need to physically act to save the middle class, canvas, phone call, talk to friends and neighbors.  We're still here!

I was in that audience, up near the podium.

At the Inaugural Address this President Reagan said to the crowd that the plane with the hostages was "in the air." This statement is not contained in the official text of the address, itself, what you get from the Reagan Library.

Apparently it is considered/asserted to be apart from the speech. But it was not.

The false history that Reagan devotees have put into such as wiki contains a claim that Reagan found out about the 52 hostage release at a lunch with congressional leaders after the Inauguration.

      That is totally false.

The crowd listening to the Inaugural Address cheered wildly at news of the hostage release. Of course, that release of hostages had been bought with weapons and bribes -- what was called Iran-Contra.
