    He is healthy and thriving on a low fat no-meat, no-dairy, no-oils but high starch (whole potatoes, brown rice), beans, vegetables and fruit. We do rarely eat bread as that's processed food so I agree with you about the rolls, but that was all there was on the table he could have.

    We used to be meat eaters and thought we were following a 'healthy' diet, but his doctor told him he would need to go on statins with his high cholesterol and heart disease in his immediate family. He hated the idea of taking those drugs, so, we changed our diet dramatically instead.

    On this diet he lost 30 pounds and his cholesterol came down nearly 100 points. He is now in the heart-attack proof zone of 150. At 56 he has more energy than most of his colleagues and rarely gets sick (in spite of working at a germ-infested university). He takes no medications.

    Anybody with heart issues ought to take a look at Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease.
