    But a strike by public employees would have been much harder for the gov and legislature to deal with.

    This shows why traditionally strikes and work stopppages have been used by labor rather than political means.

    For instance if 80% of the teachers had gone out they would not have been able to replace them.

      Illinois AFSCME was criticized very harshly for being tone deaf for negotiating a contract including raises during 2008.  When people are seeing their own situations deteriorate, they do not look kindly on people who publicly do better.

      Be very fucking careful.  Gains are not made in a straight line forever.
