  •  Did I say everything he writes is a must-read? (28+ / 0-)

when he is writing about the religious right, he has expertise that is worth reading

when he writes about other topics, he may or may not have something of value to say

    •  There's a big difference betwee the two pieces. (15+ / 0-)

The one on which this diary is based provides factual insights. The piece goodservice mentions is opinion.

I know there will never be agreement between warring Kossack factions regarding Obama, but surely we can agree on the difference between a fact piece and an opinion piece. One's presentation of opinion should not invalidate her/his presentation of facts.

things he has written weren't accurate at all.

It's kind of like if you often lie to me, when will I know that you're telling the truth. And I'm certainly not going to take the time to fact-check his work on the religious right.

Obama still has time to announce he's not running for a second term. THEN we could have a productive and meaningful Democratic Primary. We desperately need that.

examples you referred to whcih you say were not accurate at all. Unless you mean the Obama piece and if you do, it's an opinion piece. He is only inaccurate in that opinion piece based on your opinion.

You simply want to discredit the man based on what he said about Obama's detractors on the left. Well, I suppose that'll sell very well to a certain audience around here and that's a disappointing reality.

Too bad, because teacherken, to my knowledge is no clap louder Obamabot. I'll just quote him in closing this comment.

We need to know the shape of the enemy.  We need to understand their thinking and motivation.  Anyone who has ever read Sun Tzu will understand the importance of that.   Given the particular strand of religion involved, Schaeffer is an essential guide -  he lived it, he helped create it, and now he is doing all he can to stop it, dismantle it.

Read his piece.  It will upset you, which is good, because it might help clarify your thinking

I'm still hoping, goodservice, that you will provide some example that will force me to apologize for a misperception.

Schaffer's inaccuracies otherwise you call your own credibility into question. Not saying you need to fact check this particular piece, which would be a waste of time since the man knows his shit on this subject matter.

But if there are other instances in which he has not been accurate at all, you, if you are of good character at all, need to spell out an example or two. Link would be nice, if possible.

What this seems like is that you wish to discredit the man altogether because you don't like what he said regarding Obama's detractors on the left. It'd be awesome if you would prove me wrong in my perception.

    •  In fact, Schaeffer can offer us insight (12+ / 0-)

      into that mindset.

How many millions of Americans were raised in Christian / religious households, who were instilled at an early age with many of the teachings, who no longer attend church?

      Many millions.

IMO, Schaeffer Jr. not only provides insight into the history of the evangelical political movement.  He also provides insight into how millions of others like him view President Obama.

Also IMO, Obama's re-election campaign is looking at the country's mushy middle (and to win over previous Republicans who are lately looking askance at their old party.)

I think that Schaeffer's respect for President Obama is a potential bellweather of how many of those childhood church-goers might also view him.
