    it's worth remembering that two of Gov. Brewer's aides -- a deputy chief of staff and her 2010 campaign director -- were former lobbyists for Corrections Corp of America, and that CCA played a role with ALEC in drawing up SB 1070. Ever since Brewer brought Coughlin and Senseman into her circle, this industry hasn't gone begging. It's one of the few areas of the state budget that hasn't been cut.

      It's really incomprehensible, given the record of private prison operators.

      Thankfully, it looks like these communities are starting to wake up.

      It's not just a case of NIMBY-ism, but of recognizing that the Republican governance of Arizona is leading to the corporate welfare state, and that only the wealthy have a voice.
