  •  Don't underestimate the guy (5+ / 0-)

Lots of people will love the boots, the "straight talk", the whole tough-guy-from Texas BS.  And people will have short memories about what happened last time we elected the Governor of Texas to POTUS.  He is 180 degrees from Obama and for that he has a huge built-in electorate already.

well, why didnt you say this earlier? i vote for perry!

On DailyKos nothing is significant unless Obama doesn't do it.

He reminded me of Dubya immediately the first time I saw him. I wouldn't say his "built in" electorate is a huge asset for electoral votes as much of it (such that it may be) is in states any R would win.

      •  But he will appeal to displeased "indeps" (0+ / 0-)

His appeal will mostly come from R states anyhow, but I can see him appealing to a lot of "independents" who are looking for a big change--they see Obama, they see the problems with the economy, and think why not, let's give this cowboy a shot.  He's white, he's bold, he talks without thinking, he wears his faith on his sleeve--I see a lot of our fellow citizens going for that.  Then again, we are a long way from Nov. 2012 still, and after a few months on the campaign trail he could look reckless and self-absorbed.

Using a baseball analogy similar to one that had been applied to W:

Rick Perry is someone who got put into the game as a pinch runner on third base and thought he hit a triple...but he'll get called Out trying to steal home.

"Offence's gilded hand may shove by justice,
And oft 'tis seen the wicked prize itself
      Buys out the law"
