it can't be there for them as much as for the WW2 crowd, have for decades, in my experience. I'd love to be proven wrong by polls but I haven't heard anything else in popular discourse since Reagan days.

but I have this to say about that:

Take it away from me, take it away from anybody who was promised this as we paid into it every paycheck--then you'd better take it away from EVERYBODY.  You don't get to skate just because you're older.

Try floating that, Bachmann, you ignorant, feeble-minded, pustulant harpy, and just see how far that gets you.  Because if you just try and take it from a certain demographic you will reap the whirlwind.

and with great calculation pitting generation against generation for decades now and feeding younger people with those fears and lies...and I can understand how a lot of young people have bought into it. Most young people don't think in terms of careers and pensions from what I've seen - they think of the most immediate opportunities and work and think for the most part as independent contractors and temp workers. I don't blame them after seeing so many boomers lose their careers and pensions in their 50's and early sixties..but do they know we really have got their backs? I do, and that's why I will never vote for a Republican - not one single one and not for any foreseeable future.

have been constantly fed the lie that Social Security and Medicare won't be there for them when they retire.

It's clearly psy-ops by conservatives to prepare them for a time when there is no Social Security or Medicare, so that their proposals to dismantle them will not be met with resistance.

Between this and watching their foundling 401k balances being decimated, it's no wonder why the up-coming generations already have a dim view of savings plans.
