    He was governor of Massachusetts.
What kind of conservative base does that give him?

    •  The die-hards will vote Repub no matter what. (0+ / 0-)

....Mitt may have to put a Perry on the veep ticket to get the base out, but he'd do that in a nanosecond if his advisors told him to.

And, it's not like Obama's doing great with the liberal base either.

So, even if they both marginally perform with their party's base, if Mitt takes a percentage of the independents on top of that, and he wins.

      •  There are not enough diehards. (0+ / 0-)

When it comes to diehard base, Democrats outnumber Republicans by enough to notice.

        •  I disagree. (0+ / 0-)

Repubs have a reliable base; Dems have a pretty fickle one, as 2010 showed.

          Anyway, we'll see.....

        •  If you look at conservative vs. liberal. (0+ / 0-)

Conservatives are about 40 percent, liberal 20 percent and the rest are independents.

Mitt can lose a lot of conservative support and still win, as long as he takes away some independents.

Obama HAS to have liberal support as well as most of the independents.

Last I looked conservative/liberal is orthogonal to independent/party member.
