"Did someone, I say, someone say Fred Thompson?"

There's the mocking. There's the use of Foghorn Leghorn.

All I'm saying is....don't do that.  There are pleny of candiates that can be mocked. Cain come to mind. Bachmann comes to mind. True crazies, with no record to run on and no chance at the presidency or at becoming an actual power in Washington. But don't mock those who are smart and effective at what they do. That includes Thompson.

People mocked Santorum. They didn't take him seriously. They laughed at his name.

Yet look where he is now. Just where he can cause a world of trouble.

Don't mock such people. Don't take it for granted that they're no threat, as candidates, politicians or pitchmen. This is why we keep saying, "How the hell did he get elected?!"

      •  PS why wrong? (0+ / 0-)

        1. Thompson was an awful candidate, he isn't and wasn't effective at anything.

        2. there's nothing wrong with mocking him, nothing whatsoever

        •  Did you read my comment? (0+ / 0-)

OR my follow up comment?  I was talking about Thompson as a pitchman, not a candidate!

He pitched the "Democrats will raise your taxes" lie.

          You think that wasn't effective?

Where have you been the last few years?

That's one half of the GOPs main agenda. "Democrats will raise your taxes" and "Republicans will give you jobs."

That pitch lost us the House.

Thompson, in that commercial , showed us exactly what the GOP intended.

But we were so busy laughing at him, we missed the pitch. And the GOP blindsided us.

God, you people can be so smug....and so stupid

    •  btw some history (0+ / 0-)
Foghorn's voice was created by Mel Blanc and was later performed by Jeff Bergman, Joe Alaskey, Bill Farmer, Greg Burson, Jeff Glen Bennett and Frank Gorshin.[2][3] It was patterned after a hard-of-hearing West Coast-only radio character from the 1930s, known simply as The Sheriff.[4] Later, some of Foghorn's characteristic catch-phrases were drawn from the character of Senator Claghorn, a blustering Southern politician who was a regular character on the Fred Allen radio show.
