would be Robert Cowles Senate District.  But Holperins is dominated by rural and small towns than found in Cowles district which includes part of Brown County (Green Bay).   All or part of 11 counties are in Jim Holperins Senate District.  But economic populism has appeal in these parts and Holperin has always used related issues to carry him to victory in a rather conservative Senate seat.

All politicians from northern Wisconsin are NRA supporters.  David Obey who represented north-western Wisconsin was pro-NRA, about his only significant defection from the progressive agenda.

But Holperin is personally popular, and Simac is very flawed.  I have long suspected the GOP would have been better served nominating Robert Lussow to oppose Holperin, but Simac was crazier, so of course she won the GOP primary.

and a lot of politicians from southern Wisconsin side with the NRA on gun control, too.  Even Feingold was (and is) against gun control.  It's just not a useful measure in a state where hunting remains such a cultural icon.

(Not for me, so I'm a real outlier as a Wisconsinite who never even has held a gun, much less owned or used one.)

    •  Holperin has always used those issues? (0+ / 0-)

He's only been elected once and that was narrowly in an open seat in a Democratic wave year. That's part of why I was worried about him. If Holperin wins we can thank the GOP for nominating the WI version of Sharrrrrrrrrrrrron Angle.

was in the Assembly prior to the Senate.  In fact, as a State Assemblyman he survived a recall earlier in his career so defeating recalls will be old hat if he wins as projected tomorrow.
