  •  well there are such candidates (0+ / 0-)

Alan Grayson, for one--but the problem is what happens when they get in.

They just become part of a marginalized minority.  Unless we have a way of shifting the balance of power within the Democratic party.  Any ideas?

The only way the media will pay any attention at all to ideas outside of the group think is if there are actual realistic candidates contesting. One of the reasons I posted the above comment was I thought the diarists approach was entirely fiction. I feel the same way about the policy proposals on the front page of this site. No one listened to Grayson, no one listens to Krugman so what's the point of echo chamber ideas? Unless they can be fought for at the ballot box and/or implemented on local and state levels ideas don't make it above the noise.

Someone recently wrote that the USA doesn't do ideas anymore, the age of the public intellectual has passed unless they are toeing a well financed right wing trail. When Norquist has vastly more influence over the intellectual playing field in this country than Krugman the only possible change could come from the street.

So: Candidates for the House and local races. Everywhere, even where they don't stand a chance. Just to get the ideas out there. And it's small time for me to keep saying that as I'm not running for anything and am generally happy with my Reps.

If you didn't like the news today, go out and make some of your own.
