    The key problem is that the right-wing conspiracy theories routinely founder on contrary evidence.

    Sure, perhaps the government has been taken over by people trying to sell us out to a shadowy world government.

    Is that government the UN?  Surely you jest.  The UN's behavior doesn't match the way the government is selling us out; in fact the US seems to routinely fight the UN.

    The Rothschilds?  Obviously not.  Their power is minimal nowadays.

    The Trilateral Commission?  More convincing, but once you look into what it does these days, uh, no.

    The Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the European Central Bank?  OK, maybe they have a point there.  And there's a reason Dennis Kucinich signed on to Ron Paul's audit-the-Fed law.  But that's not where the right wing usually go with their theories.

    Read pp. 1-7 of Krugman's _The Great Unraveling_ (available from Google Books). NOW.
