calling you stupid, you have to know you're way, way up towards the top of the stupid!

    •  ? Why? Because meteorologists are considered (0+ / 0-)

      stupid, too? They are?

But, you can go fuck yourself, speaking as the son of two meteorologists.

That kind of statement dumbs this community down just a little bit more.

We ridicule the right when they slam science and I know you are not in that crowd. You did yourself no service by making that comment.

      Peace.

      •  It's the meteorologists who are anti-science (0+ / 0-)

        not me.

        But whatever.

        •  How are they anti-science? n/t (0+ / 0-)

If you think meteorologists are, as a scientific discipline, to be characterized as climate change deniers, you are more stupid than your initial comment let on.

As San Diego weatherman John Coleman wrote in a November 2007 opinion piece, "Global Warming is a nonevent, a manufactured crisis and a total scam." The climate scientists are liars and con men who have no qualms about faking data if it will help assure them funding and continued research grants. It's all about the money. (By this logic, doctors are secretly doing their best to make the public sick, thus ensuring a continued supply of patients and income.)

Curiously, Coleman is not alone; according to a survey conducted by an Emory University researcher, nearly one-third (29 percent) of the television meteorologists he asked responded that global warming was a "scam." That percentage may or many not be representative of all local TV station forecasters nationwide, but it should be cause for alarm.

You think being on TV is what makes a meteorologist? Really?
As long as you are on TV you are verified?
And not just on TV, but on TV and one of the guys "somebody" ASKED?
I suppose you think the only real reporters are TV reporters.
And the only real experts on anything, are on TEEVEE??

There are thousands of meteorologists in this country alone.'
                  They are real meteorologists.
And. They. Aren't. On. Friggin'. Teevee.

If we're going to get anywhere, we've got to be smarter than Teabaggers. You're gonna need one hell of a head start.

            •  There is a very small cadre (0+ / 0-)

of meteorologist's that are in that camp.
The consensus among the profession is that climate change is occuring.

Respectfully, I don't subscribe to your assertion that the profession as a whole or even partly is anti-science.

There certainly is debate among meteorologist's when it comes to climate change and that is good. However, I am unaware of any large scale denial within the profession.

Is there anything specific you can point me to that would quantify that meteorologist's are anti-science with regards to climate change and their denial of the same?

is easy to find, but if not, this will get you started:

It turns out, as this NYT article finally acknowledges, that skepticism about anthropogenic climate change is not confined to knuckle-dragging haters of the scientific method, but is especially common among meteorologists, especially those who work as TV weather forecasters. A George Mason-U Texas survey showed that only about half of 571 TV forecasters surveyed believed global warming was occurring, and fewer than a third thought climate change was “caused mostly by human activities.” More than a quarter of the weathercasters (about half of whom typically have a degree in meteorology) agreed with the statement “Global warming is a scam.”

                •  Thanks (0+ / 0-)

for the condescending reply as to Google.

I was looking to see where you you come up with the assertion and I was respectful. But as you say, "whatever."

Next. Half of these chuckleheads on TV have a freaking degree. Enough said. They might as well stay at Holiday Inn because they are "experts."

Yeah, hell even I have to laugh at the TV weatherman who in most cases can't even identify a cloud let alone make a educated statement as to climate change.

Thanks for the response and I guess this is just one of those where we will just have to disagree. We have bigger fish to fry.

weatherman (aka "meteorologist") - I still maintain they're a bunch of idiots as I originally postulated.

No one has presented compelling evidence to the contrary, except for personal insults and troll ratings.

Forgive if I didn't find that convincing.

or whatever they want to go by; I agree with you 100% that a fair percentage of them are idiots as you have shown.

As for the troll rating you received, I disagree with that. In addition, personal insults when we disagree offer very little to the discourse too. But, that's just my opinion and I am not the Daily Kos police as I respect the other commenters as well.

Perhaps we are closer together in our opinions than either one of us realise. I would hope that to be the case as to the contrary.

I do postulate that the profession is not that TV weather personality and it should not be construed they speak for meteorologist's that hold degrees that we never see.

Even in that arena there is some disagreement as to climate change, but it is very miniscule. That is to be expected and I take it for what it is.

One final note. If in fact we are not in agreement. No biggie. May we both be civil in our dialogue.

here - one of the posters seems to have had a bee up their bonnet about the equivalence of "tv weatherman" and "meteorologist" (as the term is used commonly and also in this diary).

Yeah, maybe there's a battle to be fought to keep the term "meteorologist" strictly reserved for use by academic scientists.

But, having long fought a similar battle at being outraged whenever Mr. Limbaugh was called "Rush" on this site (thus defaming one of the only semi-not-awful things to ever come from Canada) that's probably a losing battle not really worth hide rating people over.
