librarian? I suspect that it is not just lack of books, but a  lack of school librarians.  Some of these books should be given away and others should be repaired.

Is this a state funding issue or a way that the local district decides to allocate funds?

I also suspect that library money has been used to buy computers for the library instead of books, possible since the early or mid 1990's.  There has been a push for schools to keep up with technology, with good reason, but, my guess is that also has something to do with the lack of books.

I would think that in Madison many people would be  willing to donate or volunteer at a fundraiser for this school's library. Do you think there are any plans for that?

I am in full agreement that the state should reform the taxation system to fully fund all schools in an equitable way. I feel that that is a long way off right now. What can be done to help them out for this school year?

...I talked to someone who used to be a librarian in the MMSD. She said this is quite common in east Madison schools. She also said that had she gone through and removed all of the out of date books she would have been left with about 25 books on the shelves.

Right now, forward this diary to the superintendent, school board members and every news outlet in the city. The MMSD should be ashamed of this!
