  •  No it was for White women (11+ / 0-)

Who got the most of it, and also it was so that there would be at least one Black person on the police and fire and etc forces we pay for also.  No it wasn't a helping hand like here let me help you out of the ditch you fell into, it was a 10 year attempt to address the 350 years of strict institutional advantage White people were granted in this country.

as a recruiter and we had minority and female hiring goals which I met so it was more than an attempt, it was something that was achieved.

And I had a person from Halliburton tell me that they didn't have a red cross in front of their building but a red H and all those degreed accountants lawyers secretaries It pro's and etc. I brought before them in Houston in their 1000's there was not one Petroleum Engineer, so we're not here to do you any "favors".  I heard that shit alot, your hiring goals lol.  It made your company more profitable to have a fair and diverse work force, so I'm not handing out cookies for doing what you should have done, and LOL at goals I've seen that happen we have a goal, we hit it yay now we don't have to hire anymore Black folks.  It was a half hearted attempt that is now ridiculed.

never to have had corporations formalizing such goals?  Because I can't agree with that.   Lip service is always better than NO service.  It changes norms.  It's a starting place.

of the programs as a helping hand, as if it was a generosity granted with an open heart.    It was legal action to coerce companies to do what they should have done all along, and there is no reason for companies to pat themselves on the back or claim to have helped applicants.  Many companies never fully implemented policies nor did their best, they did the least they could.

Pretty much the same way that I don't feel that over 40 years of paying in payroll taxes makes me a leech collecting welfare when I finally get a SS check.  Receiving what one is legally entitled to is not help or benificence.

        •  It was difficult to find qualified minorities in (0+ / 0-)

a number of techinical positions but we did pull it off.  Some washed out, others became quite successful, plant manager, vp, etc.  Not sure what you anger is about.  Maybe your candidates were duds.

      •  a helping hand is a gift (0+ / 0-)

charity.  It is demeaning to talk about people shut out of opportunity because of skin color or gender and legal efforts to redress legal grievances caused by generations of overt discrimination and deliberate policies to screw people over as if they needed charity.
