  •  My disbelief starts with your posts on the subject (5+ / 0-)

Particularly your claims on the reactor containment vessels which don't appear to have any engineering basis to them.  I'm not a pressure vessel guy so my knowledge of vessel design is usually more related to specing press & temp combinations as well as selecting materials.

I'm not sure what the thickest forgings I've ever seen in vessels I've worked with, but seriously doubt:

These vessels are the strongest man-made objects ever made.

My understanding is that the bottom head of the Mark I is 6" steel forging with inconel plate.  I've worked with some large reactor vessels with heads and walls about the same thickness that operated at higher pressures than these were designed for...and some of the polymer reactors that I didn't work with had far higher design pressures than that.

Furthermore, thicker heads are available from U.S. manufacturers.

Hell, Jumbo's walls are 14" thick (designed and built to contain a failed atomic detonation for the Trinity test, but not used.

At any rate the Mark 1's aren't so tough as they had known hydrodynamic loading problems.  Plus at least one of them actually failed based on pressure readings going to essentially atmospheric.

The bottom head containment may be intact for now.  But until clean up is complete that isn't even clear.

If you ask "what color is the poster" when someone criticizes the President's policy or track record, you are probably a racist. If you assume white progressives don't like the President's policies because of his skin color, you are definitely a racist.
