      Place a thermometer in your fridge and freezer.

      Problem with this is you have to open it to see what it reads.  

      Instead, get a couple of the cheaper remote temp units.  Put one sensor  in the fridge, one in the freezer part of the fridge and one in the big freezer if you have one.

      That way you can just look at the little remote unit on a desktop or shelf and see what's going on inside without opening it up and letting warm air in.

      Also, insides stay colder if they are more full, but you don't want additional frozen food going into a potential power outage, so put your artificial ice blocks and buckets of water etc in the freezer to freeze now.  

      Then cook and eat refrigerated, first,  frozen second and fresh food next.  Canned etc should generally be eaten last.
