But what does this look like at this point for Outer Banks, Virginia Beach/Norfolk and DC?

This is an emotional roller coaster. Yesterday I had relaxed just a bit thinking it would be around 100 miles offshore of Hampton Roads and that we would be on the wet side and it probably wouldn't be much worse than Isabel, which was bad enough, but this is getting scary now.

The absolute worse part is that it will hit in the middle of the night on Saturday.

    •  OBX landfall (6+ / 0-)

OBX will get nailed with a landfall on Saturday.  Nothing is certain yet.  But that's at the higher confidence range of the forecast.

VA Beach/ORF also likely to be hit hard as Irene moves over or just SE of there (depending on which track you believe... it'll be close).

DC may be back west far enough to avoid most impacts, but I think they'll at least see a few showers with embedded gusty winds.  But nothing serious.
