    Selling out on the Bush tax cuts (for two years) in exchange for unemployment extensions (for one year) is dreadful hostage negotiation.

    Note that the unemployment extensions hostage.... IS DEAD NOW.
    But we didn't get anything for it.

    The crucial thing is that if the hostage-takers demand more weapons, more hostages, etc., and say they'll kill the hostages otherwise, you say "That's very sad, but we can't concede on that.  I guess you'll have to kill the hostages if you won't settle for something less."
