    •  Hey, why don't you run? (0+ / 0-)

You have lots of opinions, right?

Actually, I'm perfectly content to work as a community activist and consumer advocate.  I enjoy lobbying Congress on the Hill a couple of times a year and meeting with members back in the district - and its all volunteer work.

I also enjoy training other people to do the same thing.   To be a good consumer advocate and activist, you have to learn to have respect for the people you represent and overcome the fear and misconception that government leaders know best how to represent your interests and those of other consumers.  They don't.

Members of Congress and other government leaders do rely on well trained, ethical volunteer consumer advocates.  We make a great contribution to the Democratic process.  When corporate lobbyists call on your representative and president all day long selling their agenda, its in your best interest to ensure there are consumer advocates who follow them and encourage decision-makers to look at the other POV.

The right to petition government is a sacred part of our Bill of Rights, but most people who claim to be politically active ignore or belittle it.  It's important and I'm proud to have been doing it for the last decade.

      You should do so, too.

    •  I like my work as a consumer advocate (0+ / 0-)

I enjoy working as a volunteer lobbyist for those who don't have the money and power to influence government and shape policy on their own behalf.
