    ... I thought I had read, the difference between Net EROI and net energy yield is rounding error. But the net energy yield could, of course, only be off by a maximum of 90 percentage points, since 100% is the greatest the net energy yield can be.

    I've rewritten the post for the Oil Drum's app. 5.5x Gross EROI and the 82% net energy yield it implies.

    The argument that bitumen consumed as an energy source in extraction is "free" because it is otherwise unavailable assumes no technological progress and no change in the relative abundance of fossil fuels over the coming century, and I accept neither assumption.
