    ...also include the shipping, drilling, processing of the natural gas itself? Way too many links in this chain. And the loss of ecosystem services to boot. This is too far for most economists to look, but it has to be done. Thanks for posting on this really important issue of EROEI.

      Robert Rapier is a IMHO good source, he writes for the oildrum.com

      Hes saying tar sands has a 3 to 1 EROEI, and as you correctly note that doesnt include any inputs required to get the nat gas to site. It also doesnt include any attempts at restoring the site, er ...ah... I mean open pit mine.

      IMHO, as I wrote last week, its probably closer to 1 to 1.5 when all things are considered...

      Using 3 gallons of gas to make 4 or 5 gallons of gas is just silly, and will leave Canada with a hole in the ground that can be seen from orbit.
